Whether you’re studying to be an independent artist, audio engineer or a music business professional, taking part in music festivals is an undeniable part of the industry. While they’re obviously fun and the perfect chance to catch all your favorite acts at once, you can also network and meet fellow musicians and people who have a passion for music just like you! Because of that, here at MI we encourage our students to take part of these festivals and Los Angeles is the perfect city to do that in. Read below for some of our picks for summer festivals in L.A. in the next few weeks!
Head out to the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena to check out Arroyo Seco which has a pretty impressive lineup for those more inclined to blues, rock, classic rock, alternative and more. Seriously, where else could you see Allen Stone, Robert Plant of LED ZEPPELIN, Alanis Morissette and Kings of Leon?
High Sierra Music Festival
Head out to Quincy, California for a relaxing weekend of bluegrass, psychedelia and jam bands with a lineup of String Cheese Incident, Sturgill Simpson, Antibalas, Foundations of Funk and more. It’ll definitely get a little trippy!
Summertime In The LBC
The Queen Mary hosts this one-day festival of throwback hip-hop heavy on the West Coast sound with Snoop Dogg doing a full-album performance of Doggystyle, Ice Cube, the Isley Brothers, and Warren G. Party like it’s 1997 with sets by Ja Rule and Ashanti, Method Man, E-40 and more!
KCRW Summer Nights featuring Cut Chemist, Buyepongo
Hammer Museum and KCRW present Summer Nights, free nights of live music in the Hammer courtyards starting at 7:30 p.m each night. If you’re down to do some dancing after your classes, KCRW DJ Anthony Valadez will spin before vibrant, polyrhythmic Buyepongo takes the stage. Founding member of both Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli, Cut Chemist will play tracks from his second full-length solo album Die Cut. Did we say it’s FREE?
HARD Summer Music Festival
There’s really no other place to be if you’re an electronic music fan this summer. Happening at the Speedway in Fontana ( just outside of L.A.,) spend the weekend with the likes of Marshmello, Diplo, Flosstradamus, Travis Scott, Snakehips and more!
